New team and host provider for Healthwatch Wokingham Borough

Healthwatch Wokingham Borough continues to champion the voices of residents who use health and social care services under a new team and provider, The Advocacy People.

Matthew Hilton, CEO at The Advocacy People:

“We are excited to be continuing the excellent work of Healthwatch Wokingham Borough, making sure that the needs of local people are put at the heart of health and social care services.

“We take pride in being an independent champion for residents who use these services and in making health and social care as easy as possible for people to access. So, if you have a question, need information, or want to give your feedback, good or bad, to help shape services, please do drop in and see the Healthwatch team or get in touch by phone or email.”

Matthew continues: “We’re very pleased to be based at the Charity and Community Hub in Wokingham town centre - this vibrant venue is home to 11 organisations, all there to help local people, and has great access for members of the public.”

Healthwatch Wokingham Borough is looking for volunteers to support its vital work, and there are various types of role available.

“This is a great chance to give something very meaningful back to your community, to meet new people, and make a difference,” says Matthew.

Broadly there are three volunteer Healthwatch roles:

Advisory group member – for anyone with a particular area of interest or expertise, and a passion to see improvement for patients, this is a fulfilling role. Advisory Board members advise and support the Healthwatch team on setting priorities and planning activities, identifying key public concerns, and making sure that Healthwatch Wokingham Borough sticks to the core principles of confidentiality, respect, feedback, transparency and influence.

Enter and View representative – as part of a trained group of volunteers, observe and assess the services provided at places like care homes and dental surgeries. You’ll interview patients, residents, relatives and staff to contribute to reports.

Healthwatch champion – You’ll help spread the word about what Healthwatch does at events and public places, gathering the views of residents on important issues face-to-face and via surveys (around 8 hours a month).
