It’s Self Care Week; Exercise Self Care for LifeNews – 14 November 2022Practising self-care is som

Practising self-care is something we all need to do every day. For ourselves, our families and the NHS.

National Self Care Week is a perfect time to think about how we live our lives and make some small changes that will improve our health and wellbeing, along with our family’s too.

These changes could be looking at what you eat or drink, or how much exercise you do or how much sleep you and your family are getting. It could be about your work-life balance, because staying connected to our friends and family is also vital to our wellbeing, and theirs.

Knowing what to do and where to go for help is an important part of practising self care for life. Remember, it isn’t just the GP practice that can help, pharmacies are also health experts. All pharmacies across Wokingham Borough can help you and your family with preventing illness, treating all sorts of ailments. Pharmacists can also signpost you to the right place for additional health advice or treatment.

NHS 111 is also a good resource for health advice for things that are not life-threatening.

The NHS website has lots of information on what steps to take to look after you and your family.

The important thing to remember is, practising self care is something we all need to do every day. For ourselves. For our families. And for the NHS.

About National Self Care Week:

National Self Care Week is an annual UK-wide national awareness week that focuses on embedding support for self-care across communities, families and generations. Founded in 2011 by the charity Self Care Forum, it was originally used mostly by health organisations to communicate health messages to their audiences, but recently a growing, diverse community has recognised the benefits of participating in Self Care Week.

In addition to helping people look after their own health, Self Care Week is also used to promote better use of the NHS by signposting people to the right service relevant to their health needs – in particular, signposting people to pharmacy for accessible health care and advice.

'Exercise Self Care for Life' is the theme this year, which has a double meaning with “exercise” meaning to act as well as “exercise” in the literal sense.

More information can be found via the Self Care Forum, here.
