On Thursday 24th February the Government announced there is no longer a legal requirement to self isolate if you test positive for Covid or to take tests until you test negative.

However you may want to continue testing yourself regularly and you may make the choice yourself to self isolate to protect others until you test negative. The government has announced that until 1st April 2022 you are able to get free Covid 19. Lateral Flow tests are widely available throughout the borough to collect at test centres, pharmacies, or order online. The two main tests used for Covid-19 are:

  • PCR test (Polymerase Chain Reaction) – for people with symptoms, with swabs sent to a lab to get results
  • Rapid Lateral Flow Test (LFT) – for people without symptoms, providing results in under 30 minutes

It’s important to get tested even if you are asymptomatic because 1 in 3 people with Covid-19 do not have symptoms but can still infect other people.

To find out where you can collect rapid lateral flow tests in the borough, visit Wokingham Council Covid-19 testing webpage where you can see a list of test centres and opening times. If you have symptoms, you should book a PCR test on the Gov.uk website – either to be sent to your home or for an appointment at a walk-in or drive-through site.

The video below demonstrates how you do the Lateral Flow Test. Below that is a video for those who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The following link provides instructions in different languages.
